| In February 2023 The Third Turn completed backfilling the history of this event into our database. The name we present here - "Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Challenge" - was one of the most consistent titles given to the event, but it was sometimes called simply the "Sprint Challenge". It is unclear if the 1996 running should in fact be considered part of this event. By 1997, the race was demoted to a "regular purse" race for the now-sanctioning ASCoC sprint group and no reference to "Sprint Challenge" could be found in newspapers. We couldn't find any similar references to a special race title in the 1996 papers, but it did pay $8K to win (versus $4K in 1997), consistent with the 1995 running. So for now, we include it. | |
