STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
|
Special event held for NASCAR Legends driving USAR Pro Cup Series cars, taking place after the 2010 Scotts Turf Builder 300, racing for the charity of their choosing.
The starting lineup was set by the aforementioned race, where a Legend was paired via a drawing with a driver in that race, and where their partnered driver finished set their starting spot. Therefore, since Ottinger was paired with race winner Justin Allgaier, Ottinger was awarded the pole.
This race was marred by a severe accident on lap 30, where Larry Pearson had spun and hit the wall. His car then stopped on and perpendicular to the track where Charlie Glotzbach t-boned Pearson at full speed in the driver side door. Glotzbach was knocked unconscious for a short time, and was assisted out of his vehicle and walked away. Pearson too was knocked unconscious and had to be removed from his car, and placed on a stretcher. Both drivers were taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Dave Marcis and David Pearson elected to retire from the race following the accident, Pearson specifically citing some car damage and wanting to go be with Larry in the hospital.
Due to the severity of the accident and not wanting to risk any further injuries in the future, the event was not run after this.
