The Japan Le Mans Challenge was created by SERO, and run under sanctioning from the ACO, and followed the 24 Hours of Le Mans rules. Due to a lack of participants and low ticket sales, the series was abandoned after 2007.

A couple years after this series' folding, the Asian Le Mans Series was founded as a successor.
