Mike Chase qualified the #78 in first round qualifying but was replaced by Tom Hubert for second round qualifying and the race. Butch Gilliland won the west race as the highest finishing west competitor, due to Gilliland finishing 24th there is no listed winner for this race in West series history books. This was also the last West/Cup race combination race too. David Green relieved Larry Gunselman at some point halfway through the race before rear end let go.
