* Very important historical disclaimer: In 1984, the Florida Governor's Cup was not awarded at the time of the race. The Governor's Cup race had been hoped to be held at regular track Golden Gate Speedway up until late in the year when Golden Gate formally closed. In December of 1984, the track promoter of Golden Gate Speedway, Frank Dery, gave the Governor's Cup sanction to Sunshine Speedway's track promoter, Dan Jones. The Governor's Cup trophy does, however, indicate the 1984 Cup winner as being Butch Miller, who won the Sunshine race in 1984 that was formally recognized as the Governor's Cup in 1985. Thus, The Third Turn believes with a high amount of confidence, that this race wound up being counted as the Governor's Cup retroactively, and thus adds it to the Governor's Cup portal. With very little solid concrete evidence left over, The Third Turn judges what was and was not a Governor's Cup by what is on the current trophy.
